mysterious producer kian t is a crazy guy living in a lonely house on a top of a hill somewhere in italy. surrounded by a collection of rare old synths and vintage samplers, a little dog and the best red wine of italy. kian is making beats all day long. that’s his life. he started his career on toy tonics last year and now is back with an own ep - full of that fucked up, jazz influenced cut & paste house sound that is taking over the house world since last year. similar to his friends rhode & brown, fouk, nachtbraker or the guys around oye records in berlin he loves to create this special way of sampling old jazz records and using rare vintage synthesizers instead of digital computer sounds. just listen to a normal deep house records of the last years and compare it with the sound of the kian. using these old synths makes a big difference. you can hear it on every of his tunes: there is no cheap sound here everything is fat and has a very warm, personal, always easy to recognize sound-aesthetic: courtesy of the four synthesizers he uses: the korg polysix, the sequential prophet600, a roland juno 60, and the legendary oberheim matrix 6. and courtesy of the way he mixes his tracks: not in the laptop - but the old way: on a fat old mixing desk. thats why he has that massive sound.

night train serves both as a marvellous offering for james brown completists, and, on another level, as a brilliant on-record instrumental jukebox, full of booting saxes, guitar sounds that practically force you to get up and dance, and all propelled by a beat that’s spanned the years without ageing one little bit. so there you have it… a great album that proves what james brown and his friends were doing at the start of the ‘60s still sounds amazingly fresh.

love notes from brooklyn offers up this platter from a very exciting new brooklyn artist, subtenant. as it says on the tin, the artisanal acid ep is heavy on the 303 squelches and emotional content. each track has a unique pairing of soul and heavy acid funk. evergeen soul is the clear lead track here, using a female snippet to keep this otherwise tough little number dancefloor friendly. this track is then reworked by detroit underground darling, d marc cantu, who pitches things up into funky rave territory. the flip side sees the title track feature the most soulful chords on the entire record, and then on the b2 the artist himself takes to the mic on know how it feels. this whole ep feels live and direct from the brooklyn underground.

marco bernardi, a british producer with quite a flamboyant personality is no stranger to the burek family. having already released an excellent 2-part 12 series titled laffer ep for barba last year, it couldve been expected that hed appear on the mothership at some point. as on those two records, theres plenty of synth action going on, although with a little bit more restraint and less roughness.

alma vox is an eccentric parisian combo, they gave us this little 7-inch without much explanation, and we were instantly drawn by its hazy poetical pop appeal. the a side covers the famous french 80 s song ‘toi mon toit , by elli medeiros, adding a sensual neurasthenic disco twist, yet danceable and fun. theme ii on the b-side, has a mid-tempo reggae/funk mood combined with some ecstatic emotional chords. perfect for a cliché-freemediterranean sunset, this tune has already worked wonders on various discerning dance floors. both tracks have been mixed by i:cube, who added his unique sound to great effect.

...aaaand we’re back. it’s taken us a little longer than it should have to get this third release together, but oh my was it worth the wait. we’ve rounded up a few of our favourite oddballs to construct the first 2sox compilation release, aptly titled “oddsox vol. 1”.

the two french friends, siler & dima , have collaborated on phonogramme imprint to present you their 2nd release « friends chip » ep. a first release almost 2 years ago on their own label, popcorn records, siler & dima , took a little break from producing. when the two of them finally got back in the studio, they were unsure exactly what would result, but both wanted a return to their background and the music they like to work together. a music based on sampling, with a melting pot of jazzy & funk soul influences, from moodymann to gil scott heron or donny hataway. the result is here, with 3 groovy tunes, with a strong jazz touch, influenced downbeat of the 90’s. this friends chip release is also the fruit of several collaborations. in « the hunters » you can easily recognize the unique and sexy voice of chez damier, a key influence of the french duo. in “memoory” ,the young & talented paul cut brought his keyboard science , and le loup, one of the main highlight of the french scene, appears on the last track, « willie hutch”. to bring his music knowledge and groove to the original. the result is a beautiful ep truly “friendship”

‘consistency’, the second lp from the berlin-based techno artist. the 11 track release follows 2014’s ‘en route’ and will be released on heiko laux’s label kanzleramt, a label with which kajioka has worked with closely for over a decade. consistency lp bears all the marks of a kajioka release: a collection of deep, driving, groove-laden and synth-focused cuts. heady grooves which leave little question why ray kajioka is held in such high regard among techno veterans, called upon regularly for remix honours by the the likes of heiko laux, joel mull, pan-pot, elbee bad, alexander kowalski and marc romboy, to name but a few. kajioka’s reputation for faultless production remains consistent on this, his sophomore lp. the full, extended physical release of consistency contains 3 vinyl disks: 2 x 12” lp disks plus a free, bonus 12”.

los angeles native, dyed in the wool hooligan zeroh gets loud, technical and strange all over again on his new ten track album tinnitus hnr65. organized noise was haphazardly strung together and embellished amongst 15+ hours of music in a dark smokey garage on little to no sleep. the severity of this raw bludgeoning echoes pain in the heads and ears of your typical everyman in an attempt to bring them to higher state of consciousness. zeroh emanates a low glowing light close to the chest. the one saving grace for this genius god awful cacophony. written and produced by zeroh additional vocals on gun metal by the koreatown oddity. harp & additional vocals on my beautiful new age nightmare by low leaf

having held it down in miami for some, avstin frank is building his profile as a serious connoisseur of stripped down jams with this release for local label sports. isle of venice is a perfect morning-ready treat, all woozy synth tones and delicate percussive shuffle embellished with dubby treatment, while timeless travels sports a tougher structure without losing the heavylidded quality of the opening track. contemplation meanwhile taps into a little touch of french flair with its shuffling groove and jazzy undertones, making a neat foil to the other tracks on offer. gua camoles remix of isle of venice meanwhile takes a diversion into nagging, oddball minimalism for the crowd who like their beats chopped up.

when psychemagik’s danny mclewin decided to launch spacetalk records, he didn’t just want to reissue rare material. from the start, one of his stated aims was to deliver fresh new versions of obscure cuts from his record collection. it’s perhaps fitting, then, that the label’s second 12” breathes new life into a suitably little-known gem: avant garde’s 1982 euro-boogie b-side, “everybody’s lover”.
